Helping Haiti - Bond No. 9, Fashion Delivers and More Do Their Part

Shocked and saddened. That's the only way to describe how Ferocia and I felt when news of the Haiti earthquake hit the Internet.

Buildings collapsed, lives were lost and people were displaced by the natural disaster, which hit Port-au-Prince on Tuesday and reached 7.0 on the Richter scale. Images like the above that have been circulating on the web have left us mortified and heartbroken.

In the wake of the Earthquake, people are pitching in to provide relief and aid to the traumatized nation and we're happy to be a part of those efforts. Every little bit helps.

One of our favorite fragrances, Bond No. 9, is donating to the relief effort by giving 10% of the proceeds from the sale of The Scent of Peace to the American Red Cross, who already pledged $200,000 to provide immediate aid. Bond No. 9 Scent of Peace is available at www.bondno9.com and Saks Fifth Avenue nationwide.

NYMag.com reported that Fashion Delivers, a four year-old charity, is calling on designers to contribute lightweight clothing, like socks, sheets and underwear, to victims in Haiti. Bird, an online retailer, is donating clothes on sale and 10% of its weekend sales to relief efforts.

No matter how small or significant the donation, or even the incentive behind it, I'm just happy companies are making an effort to give back. I applaud them.

If you want to follow their lead and get involved, you can donate your money, resources or time to this list of charities via POSHGLAM.com.

  • You can text "Yele" to 501501 to donate $5 to Wyclef Jean's organization, Yele, which is providing urgent aid. Five American dollars equal 35 Haitian so a little goes a long way.
  • Forgotten Children of Haiti are sending 55-gallon drums to Haiti filled with clothes, shoes, underwear and more. If you are led to give money (each drum costs $135) or time (volunteer to help pack), visit www.helpfch.org for drop-off locations.
  • Go to www.onepeopleonehaiti.org to research legit charities to donate to, find information on when aid shipments are leaving the US for Haiti and to be a support system for others with loved ones that have been or are being affected. For more information and details on their upcoming charity event, email help@onepeopleonehaiti.org and follow the Facebook group "Haiti Cherie - We Will Prevail."

Also, on Sat January 16th, Columbia University's Uris Hall will hold a clothing drop-off drive on the first floor for victims in Haiti from 10AM to 3PM.

Keep Haiti in your thoughts and prayers,

The Glamazons
