Tom Ford is planning to launch his own line and has been consulting with shoe designer Michael Lewis. I have never heard his name before now but Michael who graduated from St Martins then started to design footwear in Paris and has designed shoes for the likes of Jean- Charles De Castelbajac, Kurt Geiger, Louis Vuitton, Burberry and for Tom Ford whilst he was still at Gucci.
His debut A/W 09 shoe collection which was inspired by board games along the lines of chess and Cluedo and also Alice in Wonderland, the shoes have a luxurious feel to them, dressed
In patent leather, pony skin and suede. They look chic, classic and look like they belong in some kind of film noir or classic Hollywood film. As for his S/S 10 collection the shoes come in an array of colours still using patent leather, pony skin and suede (I wonder if they will become his trademark materials?)Some of the shoes decorated with tassels but still looking very sophisticated.
These T-bar shoes named “Lillia” from the S/S 10 collection are my favourite. I love the colour contrasting combination with the lilac and the pastel green...such soft colours juxtaposed with the black. It seems that Michael Lewis is a man who likes paying attention to detail as there is a stitching print going round the shoe, a translucent plastic bow and the shape of the platform and the sculptured heel. This man is demanding attention with his statement colours and materials I personally think this is a star shoe designer in the making.
