Erdem wins Designer Fashion Funds
Canadian born Erdem Moralioglu creator of label Erdem was announced today as winner of the British Fashion Council/Designer Fashion Funds. The designer is renowned for his use of bold prints and tailoring as well as always making it his main focus to make women look feminine with out it being to overbearing and "cutesy" and with an unusual twist.
He beat Christopher Kane, Marios Schwab, Nicolas Kirkwood, Richard Nicoll, Clements Ribeiro, Angel Jackson and E. Tautz to the £200,000 prize, this isn't the first bit of funding/support that Erdem will have received as he won the second Fashion Fringe Award in 2005 which launched his career as a designer.
I think that its wonderful that this man has won the prize as he deserves the support and money over the likes of Christopher Kane (As much as I love his designs and would love for him to tell me he wants to run away and elope with me does he really need to £200,000? No probably not. He's never really far from gaining major kudos from the major fashion fat cats, also the guy is designing for the Versace Versus line!!)
Richard Nicoll gained recognition for collaborating with Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton before launching his own line AND winning Best Young Designer at Elle Style Awards last spring. It was definitely someone elses turn to be in the spotlight and maybe this will give Erdem the credit that he really deserves for someone who only has a small design team. For someone who clothed some of the most famous faces around for example Michelle Obama, Thandie Newton and Keira Knightley. I really hope that it helps push his buisness to be a global brand and one to be reckoned with.
