Givenchy Campaign A/W 2010

In my personal opinion the house of Givenchy since Ricardo Tisci took over has always been about embodiying a powerful, striking yet darkly beautiful and elegant woman. Some of his designs are rather androgynous, but with his Autumn/Winter campaign he decided to step his game up and take unisex to a whole new level by using transgender model Lea T, who was formerly known as Leo who is in fact Ricardo Tisci's personal assistant and fitting model. It was shot by Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott alongside the likes of Mariacarla Boscono, Ming Xi and Malgosia Bela to name a few. Tisci said this about Lea T:
"She always been very feminine: super fragile, very aristocratic,” and she embodies the androgyny of Givenchy.

I think it's brilliant that Tisci has used a transgender model as it's exploiting the fashion industry with the fact that designers play it safe. When it comes to picking models for campaigns it is always the same faces you see like Karlie Kloss, Natasha Poly, Sasha Pivovarova or some other generic sombre looking, more than likely Eastern European. Maybe this could be a step in the right direction after Americas Next Top Model had their first transgender contestant a couple of seasons ago, another thing that I love about this campaign is that no matter how much talk happens about it because it features a transgender model is that it does not detract the attention that it deserves for being another powerful, strong and striking campaign from the house of Givenchy.
